Project 4 Brainstorm blog

Updated: Dec 14, 2022

I want to project on a project I made in another class, and experiment with images displayed in a checkerboard format. I wanted to replicate those red and white hearts Danes would make during Christmas, but using more absolute and firm materials. As they are traditionally made out of paper, I used 2x4 lumber to demonstrate the strength and durability of this particular version. While I lost track of exactly which pieces were cut next to each other, I still endeavored to line up the grain to reference them being the same piece and rounded the edges of each section to emulate the braided appearance of the originals. I wrapped the chain the way I did to signify my desperation to lock up and hold onto the Danishness I have in me. Since the Christmas hearts are usually hung as tree ornaments, I decided to explore the idea of a deconstruction of the tree, instead harvesting pine needles from the trees on campus and placing them in and around the chain. I would like to add a performative aspect to this installation through microphones and sound wavelengths so the viewer can interact with the sculpture without distracting from the piece as a whole. I would like to show the red and white of the original paper hearts of the tan wood since I couldn't use those colors in the original piece, and add a cloudy or frosty effect to the red section to add more dynamism to the whole composition.
